Cisco Asa Vpn Mac VPN Connection

Its a steep learning curve and I have been able to work through most of the initial issues, however this Mac VPN connection issue is leaving me stumped.

When I try to connect via the built in Mac OSX 10.6 Cisco IPSec connection I get the following: A configuration error occured.

I can confirm that the host, pre-shared key, group name, and user name are correct.

It does not even get to the point where it prompts for a password.

Using the VPN Client on Windows XP it connects without issue.

I have tried using debug crypto isakmp and debug crypto ipsec but no information is collected when attempting to connect on a Mac.

Adding the lines: crypto ipsec transform-set TRANSESP3DESSHA esp-3des esp-sha-hmac crypto ipsec transform-set TRANSESP3DESSHA mode transport enabled me to connect through the Cisco IP-Sec built in VPN connection.

Will work on getting it to work with L2TP but its not required.

Click the VPN Type pop-up menu, then choose what kind of VPN connection you want to set up, depending on the network you are connecting to.

L2TP is an extension of the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol used by internet service providers to enable a VPN over the internet.

IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is a set of security protocols.

IKEv2 is a protocol that sets up a security association in IPSec.

Enter the server address and the account name for the VPN connection.

Click Authentication Settings, then enter the information you received from the network administrator.

If specified by your network administrator, click Advanced to enter additional information such as session options, TCPIP settings, DNS servers, and proxies.

The additional information you can enter depends on the type of VPN connection youre setting up.

Select Show VPN status in menu bar to use the VPN status icon to connect to the network and switch between VPN services.

To remove the VPN configuration, select the VPN network connection service in the list and click the Remove button.
